The Days of Knights opened in the fall of 1981 just
in time for the rush of Christmas shoppers. Well, maybe not a
rush! John Corradin, the store's current manager, had come
up with the idea of opening a Sci-Fi Fantasy shop in the
spring of 1978. Unfortunately, rents and start up costs in
Northern Wilmington were exorbitant and his dream failed to
come to fruition. In the summer of 1981 Lee McCormick also
had a dream. He remembered that his close friend had had the
same dream a few years back. A phone call and a short
conversation later and a dream took wings. As most small
business ventures do The Days of Knights struggled to
gain an identity. With much hard work, reincorporation, and a
dogged determination, the store managed to survive those early
years. Then, like a wildflower, we began to grow. Success and
a new partner who brought with him a new influx of capital
The Days of Knights started its journey. Every few
years DOK's (as it is affectionately called) moved to
a bigger, better facility. At first under the same roof
until it encompassed over half of the Newark MiniMall. The
mall was bought and DOK's was kicked out. Finding
their present location, 173 East Main Street, The Days of
Knights continued to expand and flourish. The store as
it is now comprises is nearly 3000 square feet. Quite a
jump for our original 400 sq. ft.
What started as a basic D&D shop with a
few pieces of art is now a full service gaming center.
Nearly 40% of the store is dedicated to sci-fi and fantasy
arts and crafts. Posters, sculptures, jewelry, T-Shirts, and
weaponry adorn our walls. As for games, we have them all -
from Monopoly to Magic:The
Gathering and everything in between. Our game collection is
immense and our out-of-print selection dwarfs the
games on our shelves. Most first-time visitors spend hours
perusing our goods and we know they will return again and
again. In a vote of the students of the University of
Delaware, The Days of Knights earned the tribute of
"the coolest store on Main Street". We hope that if you
haven't already, you plan an excursion to visit us.
We are open 7 days a week. 10am to 7pm Monday through
Saturday and Noon to 5pm on Sundays. You can call ahead for
information, questions or just to chat at (302) 366-0963
