Proud Governor Lu: Lu Tzan, Governor of Lawa province; he reports directly to the Emperor’s advisors in Changan. His main concern now is the smooth running of the Festival. Hidden Dragon Jen: Lu Chiao Lung, the Governor’s daughter. She is well known and well liked in Nu Wa. Madam Lu: Lu Pei Pei, the Governor’s wife and Jen’s stepmother. A proud and slightly arrogant woman who nevertheless is the perfect complement to her dignified husband. Captain Leo: Leo Ran Jung, Captain of the Prefecture Police. He reports to the Governor, and is responsible for keeping the peace and arresting those who would disturb it. Herb Doctor Wong: Wong Fei Hung is the leader of the Lam Chi Bo martial arts school, a great healer, and a teacher of the way of true kung fu. Wong is scrupulously honest, very kind to the unfortunate, and generous to a fault. Mother Wong: Wong Tsui Fa is Herb Doctor’s mother. She is a gregarious shop owner, and is well known in town as a moneylender and peerless master of finances. Bucktooth So: A member of the Lam Chi Bo school who has been appointed as this year’s tax collector, So Bao is in the unenviable position of trying to collect cash from his betters. Butcher Lang: So’s “brother” Ma Lang Ku; they were brought up together in an orphanage and taken in by kindly Herb Doctor Wong, whom they have served faithfully. Lang has been appointed leader of the Nu Wa Militia this year. Asia the Invincible: Dong Fang Bu Bai, the leader of the Sun Moon Sect. Asia is a very mysterious figure—no one seems to know much about him (or her), as he (or she) is not often seen in public. Chief Tzu: Chief of the highly respected Wu Tang Clan, Tzu Yang is a powerful kung fu artist and leader. Little Beauty: The famous and talented blind courtesan of Nu Wa; everyone expected Little Beauty to some day take over the Peony Pavilion where she worked, but there appears to be a new madam. Sorcerer Lo Pan: Da Lo Pan the ancient and decrepit sorcerer has simply always lived in Nu Wa. No one ever remembers a time when he was not a resident. Nor does anyone know what he really does there, other than that he and his minions seem to have their fingers in every business in town. Very Ancient Old Master Yee: As his name suggests, Yee Po is a very, very old man. Yee spends much of his time in study, meditation and prayer. He also used to teach kung fu and magic, though he hasn’t done so for several years. A pleasant and thoughtful man, Yee has become a tiny bit forgetful. Drunken Su: The town drunkard. He often raves about his “glory days” when his brother was a clan chief. True enough, but he himself never had any glory to speak of. He spends most of his time now trying to cadge drinks.
